I went to the Dr. 4/26 and he recomended that I have an evisceration of my microphthalmic eye... has anyone ever heard of this for a microphthalmic patient?

By evicseration you mean removing the eye? Our daughter's occularist told us never to let anyone remove her eye as it is easier to fit a prosthetic over an existing eye than try and fill an empty socket. It sounds like you are an adult so perhaps there are other medical conditions (ie glaucoma-infections etc)that are being treated?

keep us posted

yes I am an adult LOL sometime!!! No I don't have glaucoma or any infections or anything like that... that's why I'm so confused... and when I search microphthalmia and evicseration on the internet I can't find any corelation between that 2...

and the removal of the eye is called and enucleation an evicseration removes essentially all of the "guts" of the eye leaving the casing of the eye (I know the name of it but I;m gonna butcher the spelling so I thought to just leave that out) after that is done then and ocular implant is inserted into the casing... suposedly it's suposed to help with the cosmetic aspect... filling out the ocular orbit and all that and allowing for a smaller shell

I'm starting to wonder whether the risks out way the benefits... more than likely I would STILL have to have another surgery to correct the pstosis

Jaderator, I would definitely seek a second opinion. Something that radical just doesn't seem warranted in your case. Let us know what you find out.
