Hello, I'm new to the site and I have many questions. I have a 7 year old daughter who was born with micro-opthalmia. She has otherwise been a healthy child all her life. But now she all of sudden has seizures. The doctors performed an EEG, MRI, and a CT Scan and couldn't find anything that was triggering the seizures! Could this problem be linked to the micro please help me if you can. The doctors has prescribed medicine that seems to be making her worse. Right now she wears a sceleral shell for her micro-opthalmic eye. (excuse the spelling) Ariana also feels like she is the only one in the world who's different. I live in the chicago area is there anybody in the chicago area my daughter can meet who has the same condition.

Hi,
I have an 8 year old daughter with bilateral anophthalmia who also has a seizure disorder. It started as febrile seizures when she was younger, but she did not outgrow them like most children with febrile seizures do. She now takes daily medication (tegretol) to control them, and has not had any seizures while on medication. Her doctors were never able to tell us what caused her seizures and she also had EEG's, MRI's, CT's, etc.

It is also my understanding that there may be a relation between microphthalmia/anophthalmia and seizures with SOX2 Anophthalmia Syndrome. This is one of the genes they are studying at Albert Einstein Medical Center. My daughter has not yet been tested to see if she has the SOX2 gene mutation, but from what I've read, many children with this gene mutation also have seizures.
