My 3 month old son has bilat micro and has no useful vision in one eye and will have light/dark, movement in the other eye. The ocularist wants to put conformers in both eyes but the Dr. just in the non-seeing eye. Have you heard of this? Also, the ocularist tried placing a conformer but said my son's eye opening was too small to allow the plunger tool to be able to get the conformer out. He wants to wait 3 months and see if the opening gets larger. Will this happen? Can anyone explain how their child looked with the conformer? Any suggestions on conformers would be appreciated. We're scared to death! Thanks April

Hey April !

I can only share with you what we had done with our son Linus. He has "micro" in his right eye only. He will be 10 months old on the 26th of this month. He has had 2 clear/black conformers in his eye and is now on his 3rd "painted" eye . He has been wearing these since he was 6 weeks old.

Here is what I have experienced: our opthomoligist tested both eyes the day he was diagnosed.... we were told that is was "most likely blind due to no retnal and/or optic nerve growth"... however.... he could possibly experience light and dark in his right eye, but we wouldnt know until he could verbally react to testing.

Now, we have put a conformer in his eye because.....
his little eye isn't going to grow any..... therefore his socket NEEDS something to simulate bone growth or else we have been told he will experience facial deformities.....

We came to the determination that we would rather his be able to see out of one good eye and look normal rather that chance his sight and have in face the possiblity of faical deformity.

I realize that our stories are different... I know this is a bump you never expected in your road in life..... But I hope my story helped.....

I dont know if you can see it, but Linus picture is in my profile and hopefully you can see how good his "magic" eye looks.

My best to you and your family,
Romy
