Hi everyone,

My daughter of 4 years and 7 months was diagnosed with unilateral microphthalmia in the right side eye when she was born.

Early this year I heard about implants of Hydrogel pallets expanders that can help increase the orbital volume.

I wonder if any parent have gone through this technique and what you think about it: results, complications, efficiency, etc.

Many thanks in advance.

Azim

Hi Azim,

My son had the hydrogels a couple years ago. Actually he had the procedure twice as they did not stay in the first time. They definately self-inflate, which is what they are designed to do. I think you have to talk with your doc and do what is best for your daughter-each case is different.

Good luck to your family.

Hi Jodi,

Thank you for sharing your experience and your words of support.

You said that the hydrogel implant "did not stay in the first time". Can you explain what happened? And if it is normal to the implants to move from their location?

Best regards

They just sort of popped out-I guess it wasn't meant to be for us. I'm sure there are other families that have had success though.
