My son did not have the stems, (my guess being becuase it would have inhibited the vision he did have) but I have heard of others with the stem. I second Jodi, Don't let people's stares bother you. I find it a good opporunity to educate people's igorance. I don't mean that in a bad way either. Sometimes people stare and I sometimes feel in the mood to educate and other times I smile and move on. My son is 3-1/2 with bilat micro with nystagmus in both eyes. He does have some vision so he wears clear confomers. But with the scar on his head from his cranio surgery, his glasses and his eyes, many, many people stare. Its just one more obstacle you will overcome!

AGain, the stems are completely normal for infant shells/conformers. They will not always have them on there as they grow.

good luck

My son also has bilat micro but the Dr. is telling us to just put a conformer in one eye (no vision eye). Have you heard of that and how did they decide to do both?? Any help appreciated. Thanks April
