I have the opposite problem. My son is 3 months old and the ocularist didn't put the conformer in because he was afraid that he and myself couldn't get it out becasue my son's eye opening is too small to get the plunger tool on the conformer. We're waiting to see if the eye opening grows in the next 3 months. Anyone heard of this?? How did you all find that the conformer looked once it was in? I'm nervous about the whole idea. Also, have you heard of it just being put in one eye? Any help appreciated. Thanks April

April,
Has the ocularist tried to put a conformer in with a, and plese forgive my ignorance for not know what it's called, peg sticking out. When Danny was a baby his eye was so small that we couldn't even open it. The ocularist put this little tiny conformer in there with a little peg sticking out so we could take it in and out. It helped to open his eye more then it normally would and then every month we went back and they would increase the size month by month until is was big enough to put a regular conformer in and then eventually the prosthetic. I don't know if that helps or not. Also, when we went to our first inital occularist in Montgomery, AL we found out that he was not board certified. We know go to an occularist in Birmingham who is Board Certified and believe me it makes a difference.
Good luck

I agree with everyone else, the conformer should not have been falling out like that. We live in Toledo and my son also goes to Kellogg Eye Center, Greg Dootz is the occularist there.

Glad to hear the conformer is fitting better!

also I have heard of others having conformers with pegs on them, but never knew why. We always have just used a suction cup, so now I know why pegs are placed on them.

Good luck!

We have new born girl, born 5 July 2007 in Ft Walton Beach Florida (Northwest Florida) with Anophthalmia. The doctors sent us to Sacred Heart in Pensacola and gave us 2 pages copied from a textbook and said someone will call you next week! We found more info from your website than we did in 2 days with the doctors and no opthamologist was even mentioned when at the hospital. From what we read we see we need to do something quickly, but where do we start and who do we call on Monday, because we aren't going to wait till someone calls us.
Thank you
