Congrats on your new baby and welcome.
What is Peter's Anomoly? Does he have vision difficulties? And as far as a child with microphtalmia in one eye, usually the other is not affected. However, she should be checked to make sure there are no other problems with the other eye since they develop at the same time. Does she have any part of the micro eye or nothing really there? My son was born with bilateral micro with cataracts in both eyes too. He acutally has bigger micro eyes than others with all the parts and the retina is attached in both eyes. Unfortunately we did not find any knowledgable help until he was 3mos old. At that time they did remove the cataracts, and he does have some useful vision with help of the conformers and high powered lenses (thick glasses). Because the cataracts were removed at 3mos it left him with nystagmus in both eyes (they wander) he can focus on something for a few seconds.

It is overwhelming in the beginning to figure out what and why. But, unfortunatly many of us don't know the answer to these questions and for now need to accept it. It is very difficult to do, at least for me.

Also, as Jodi said, my son Jalen was born this way, as was your daughter so they really don't know any different. This to them is "normal" Honestly, kids will find something to make fun of no matter what we look like. I too worry about my little guy as he keeps growing and getting older, but I think I would worry regardless.

I think you just need to find a good opthalmologist and ocularist and you will all end up okay. Some occuarlists differ at the age they want these kids to start with conformers or prosthesis? I guess it depends on how much of an eye is there to work with and if there is any vision or not? Since our son has vision his shells are clear with little holes in the bottom for drainage!

Feel free to email me with any questions, fears, concerns, no matter what they are!
good luck
Michelle
