Just a question for parents. Our daughter has left micro (blind) and her right eye has a nystagmus which causes her eye to jerk back and forth. She is considered visually impaired. Her usable vision is good, she can see pictures, letters, in books etc. We were told that she should learn braille now even though she will be a sight reader. It helps the kids in school when they have to start doing a lot of reading. Eye fatigue etc...
Can anyone out there comment on this.

Hi Sara
Just wanted to say a quick hello! We met at the MPVI conference this past Sept. My son is Jalen. Just to add what we talked about in Michigan. Its just easier for them to learn things when they are younger, however, if she is not having any difficulty reading standard print without the use of any magnification there really isn't a need at this time. But as we heard from kids with low vision, it would have made their lives easier to have learned braille for when they got older and the print got smaller. I guess there really isn't the same answer for each child. You just have to go with the flow and see how she does!
It was so nice meeting you and your family. I hope to be able to stay in touch!
