I am starting to do some of my own research after reading about the DuPont settlement in both England and US. My daughter, Jadyn, was born with microphthalmia in her left eye and a coloboma in her right. She is only 5 months old and always thought maybe she inherited her coloboma from me, I was told (after she was born) I had a coloboma, then another eye dr told me I have a spot that looks like a second optic nerve and another eye dr. told me it was just a white scar, not coloboma. Well, I am a nursing student and was around bacteriacides (sp) when I was pregnant. About the time her eye was developing. I found I was pregnant the day before the semester started.
So I wanted to know if anyone else here is either in the medical field or attending school taking lab classes/ nursing classes and was around either bacteriacides, fungicides, etc.
I know there are at least 2 others on here that are in the medical field. I have also been informed that there is a nurse in Sacramento, CA and her son was affected. If any of you would be so helpful to answer these couple questions by either responding to my post or sending me an email @ JessicaLBell@sbcglobal.net (please note there is an L between the Jessica and the Bell).
1. Do you work or attend classes that expose you to chemicals such as fungicides and bacteriacides?
2. If so, what have you been exposed to?

Thanks in advance,
Jessica Holt

Ps. The chemical we used in the classroom was Roccal-D. After pulling the Material Safety Data Sheet I found the main ingredients are Alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chlorides (found in products such as Lysol); Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (highly toxic), and Tributyltin oxide (also highly toxic).

After I posted my thread I did more research on the DuPont case and it looks as a lot of people have tried to reach settlements other than the one Florida family. I am very interested to find out more information.

I can definitely say our kids are rare and being blind is also rare. I don't believe I knew one single blind human being until my son was born. Its amazing to me! Anyway I do work with a nurse whose daughter was born with unilateral micro and a form of autism and a Child Life Specialist also had a son born with unilateral micro and no other "issues" I guess deep down I really want to know what caused this to happen, I know I did not knowingly do anything to cause it! So, I just have to accept the fact that no child is guaranteed to be born healthy without any genetic abnormalities. They are all gifts from God. It has taken me about 4.5 years to come up with that though. Would I want to know if I could, heck yea, but it doesn't appear that I will ever get an answer to my "why?" For me who has to know everything, it is frustrating, but I have come to accept it. For the most part!

I too have read about the benelate findings and it is interesting. Wonder if eating fresh fruit could have been the cause? But then again, you can go to the mall and be around millions of viruses. Ya just don't know
