Default At what age...?

My daughter is 6 and wears a shell over her micro eye. At what age do kids usually start taking care of their prothestics. We have tried encouraging her to take part in removing the shell for cleaning etc. but no luck. What have those of you with older kids done to encourage your child in caring for their shell/eye.

HI, I think your child will probably let you know when they are ready, just try to encourage a little bit at a time. All children are different my son is nearly 12 (although he does have developmental delay too) he can rotate his eye if it turns, & take is out easily!! His is more of a solid eye as his severe micro eye was removed when he was anout 6 months old (not our choice).
Have fun!

Hi Sara,
I believe we met at a conference with MPVI a few years ago around Detroit. Jalen is now 7years old and quite frankly I haven't even given that a thought. I guess I would go with their own comfort level. If she seems interested in learning then teach her, otherwise, its probably a lost cause. Like I said, I haven't even started teaching Jalen. He know what we do, but maybe I should start asking him. Although he is bilateral and legally blind, so that might make a difference too.

Hope things are going well.
Michelle
