need advice about surgery for head tilt and for lens insertion strategies
I have a 3 year old daughter with microopthalmia in her left eye. She has no vision in her left eye, but seems to have perfect vision in her right. She does have nystagmus in her right eye, however, and subsequently has a head tilt which serves to stabilize her right eye for steady vision. Our opthomologist has suggested performing surgery on the muscles of her seeing eye which is supposed to bring her line of vision to the center, thus eliminating the head tilt. We were also told the surgery on the muscles of the seeing eye would straighten the micro eye which has the tendancy to turn inward. ( This is supposed to make fitting the prosthetic lens easier). I am extremely hesitant about any surgery on her good eye. I was wondering if anyone else has had to make this decision, and has any advice.
I was also wondering if anyone has any advice on how to get my child to cooperate with having her lens inserted. She fights horribly, and if my husband is not home to hold her, I basically have to straddle her on the floor and hold her hands down under my legs. It is traumatic for everyone, and I keep thinking there must be a better way. Thanks in advance for any wisdom!
