Default Hello everyone

My name is Cassie and I have a 21 month old son with bilateral microphthalmia. I wanted to get some advice as far as teaching Xavier to feed himself with a spoon, he has no trouble with finger feeding, we see an OT every week, but he still doesn't seem to want to do it. Also I was wondering how in the world to go about potty training, if it werent for how bad his poo smells this kid could sit in a poopy diaper for hours....maybe it's just a boy thing, but I was told that when a child is ready to train they would start letting you know they went potty???? I look forward to chatting with you all, and thank you in advance for ANY advice you can give. Have a beautiful day

Hi Cassie! I also have a son with bilateral micro but he is 3 1/2 years old. We still struggle with him using a fork and spoon. I think it's easier for him to eat finger food so he chooses that over using the utensils. It's very frustrating for me as it takes him so long to eat if I don't "give in" and help him. He can get the spoon to his mouth but needs help with the "scooping". (I realize he won't do it himself if we countinue to help.) I'd also be anxious to hear tips on this and potty training if there are some. Mason still goes poop in his pants but is fully pee potty trained. I've also heard them say to wait until they're ready but would like to know how long is too long? Hope all is well with your family. April

It is better to take him to the hospital...
A doctor better told you about his condition after a proper checkup...

Yes steve7680768 is right.

You should consult a doctor who will guide you in right direction.

I was told that if my boy ('normal', just Deaf) wasn't potty trained by 4, 5 years old, I should take him to the doctor. You must be having a well-child checkup coming soon- ask the doc. Ironically, I was trying to potty train my daughter (younger than son) so she could go to daycare and instead my son picked it up in a day. He was 2 months short of 4 years old at that time. He was ready.
